Remotely Operated Riverboat
The students of BE of the Department
of Electrical Engineering of 6th EPAL,
of the 1st CVT (SEK) in Heraklio of Crete, Greece
in the framework of the Special Thematic Activity 2012-2013,
we constructed a remotely operated riverboat
which can also be controlled by means of a tablet android. Communication takes place through an application via blue tooth which was downloaded from the android market.
In our attempt to save money in terms of the materials we made use of some equipment found in SEK, i.e. the first brick LEGO NXT controlling three motors, and we also used materials that we brought from our homes such as:
- Pieces of plywood for the roof and the decks.
- POLYSTYRENE to enhance buoyancy
- sanitary tubes for the columns
-painting spray for the woods and the pipes
-PLEXI Glass for the gunwale and the batteries
- lentotainia, batteries and an ON /OFF switch for the ship lighting
- plastics from printers which have broken down for the protection of the wheels of the riverboat
- rotors taken from kitchen extractors for the wheels of the riverboat.
Eventually we constructed a riverboat which is operated by means of a tablet with a G-cencor of acceleration without even pressing the buttons, but simply moving the tablet depending on how we want to move the riverboat. The movements of the tablet are transferred as commands to the motors.
Although, during the construction process we encountered several problems which we overcame by working with enthusiasm, on the whole, it was an experience with really rewarding results.
